What happens if a spider vein ruptures?

My husband has a spider vein on his chin. I has never bothered him so he has never gotten it checked out. Last night at his softball game, a ball hit his spider vein. There is a lot of swelling and it is really black and blue. Is this something we should be concerned about. I says it does not hurt...much.
